Why does your child need to take art lessons?

Painting as a Mirror: Imagination and Pedagogical Guidance in Children's Art
In the field of art education, children's paintings often provide the purest and most direct window into their inner world of imagination. Yet, without a certain degree of artistic sensitivity, one might easily overlook the distinctive qualities embedded within a child's artwork.
At first glance, this particular painting may appear simple and naïve. However, upon closer observation, one discovers a wealth of inventive thought and aesthetic charm. Consider, for instance, the depiction of flowers—these blossoms do not seem to emerge from the earth, but rather descend from the sky, drifting down with the rain. Such imagery arises from the child's whimsical imagination, a unique fusion of nature and fantasy rendered through an innocent yet intuitive visual language.
Look next at the two rabbits in the composition. Their bodies seem to glisten as though moistened by rain, their translucent forms reflecting light like crystal. With a spontaneous and ingenuous touch, the child captures the delicate tension between the animated subject and the still background. This impulsive yet expressive handling reveals a nascent impressionistic sensibility—an intuitive response to the world rather than a calculated representation of it.
Of course, such compositional control and expressive fluency do not emerge solely from innate talent. They are often cultivated through the teacher's patient, individualized guidance. True art instruction does not demand mechanical imitation; rather, it teaches students to make aesthetic judgments within the creative process—to discern when to surge forward with expressive emotion, when to restrain and refine, and when to bring a gesture to resolution. The educator's task lies in helping the child find a dynamic equilibrium between freedom and structure, between emotional spontaneity and rational control.
Through continuous refinement of their pictorial manner—that is, their personal mode of execution—children not only acquire technical skills but also develop a sensitivity to the expressive feedback of each brushstroke. Every mark becomes a reflection of emotion; every pause, a renewed act of observation.
Thus, the purpose of teaching children to paint is not to mold them into professional artists, but to help them learn how to see—to perceive the emotions behind color, the relationships among forms, and the beauty that often escapes casual attention. This cultivated way of seeing aligns closely with what Western education calls vision: the capacity to perceive the whole picture, to anticipate, and to imagine the future.
Ultimately, painting becomes a means through which children come to understand the world. Through brush and pigment, they learn to express, to judge, and to create—and, in doing so, they gradually shape the very way they see life itself.
OUR TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
In DanNie Studio, the student will not only learn the basic studio art knowledge but learn how to enhance a lifelong skill called "Creativity." One has better creativity can be a plus for whatever career he or she will pursue in the future. and critical thinking, a useful skill for a lifetime.
At DanNie Studio We Teach more than Just Art
Through art lessons, we provide a fun way for the student to learn important life skills: DISCIPLINE, CONFIDENCE, PATIENCE, FOCUS, and most of all, an ability to see that life as a whole picture which should be painted by the individual as beautiful and meaningful as it can be.
Art challenges people to think in new ways.
The fine arts provide a rich opportunity to connect with students in ways other subjects do not. At the same time, they provide cross-curricular connections that can strengthen critical thinking, cultural awareness, and student skills in subjects ranging from social studies to science to language arts.

Instructor's statement:
------ Beyond the Basics
Teaching art to children is totally different from teaching art to adults.
I teach children the basic principles of art in terms of concretes. For example, I guide them to see that a tree leaf is connected to a branch, the branch is connected to the trunk, and the tree trunk is rooted in the earth.
When I teach adults, I assume they possess common sense, so my emphasis is more on guiding them to think in terms of abstractions, such as aesthetics and iconography. With adults, a painting can just be a tree leaf without the branch. Furthermore, the painting could merely be a representation of the colors and textures of a leaf, without a concrete image of the object.
Even though some of my younger students have studied art with me for many years, most are still too young for me to discuss abstract concepts with them. However, through painting and drawing, they can learn the skills of critical thinking. For example, I often require them to think about what size and placement of the image should be in relation to the size of the canvas. That is a kill of planning management. I encourage the young student to visualize a finished picture before he or she starts to paint. I often encourage a young student to use this skill of visualization to see what he or she will be doing 10 or 20 years from now. Once a young person has such a vision for the future, he or she can set his or her current priorities in the right places.
In order to be a good artist, I encourage each student to establish his or her own painting style.
In the higher-level art lessons, we discuss composition, rhythm, balance, texture, and even philosophical symbolism in a work of art. Most importantly, I want my students to not only learn art just for art's sake but also to understand how they can apply the principles of art to their lives, to possess the ability to comprehend and handle challenges beyond the basics.
